F I S H I N G R E P O R T S:
Richland Chambers Sunday August 28, 2004
I had the priviledge of fishing with Mike Wilson(wyliecrappieman) and his daughter Abby this day. We were trying to get an early start so we could be on the fish as soon as they came up. Mike and Abby showed up ready to go and after waiting for a little light we started out.
The Terns were working an area between Hickey Island and the water pump stations and we had an absolute blast. Mike and I would make a cast, hook up and hand the rod off to Abby. Every no and then thought she had to make “the catch” all by herself. Once the top water bite stopped we went to fishing slabs and Abby picked that up even faster than her dad.
Unfortunately, the storms came in around 10am and we had to cut the day short. It was okay as we had already caught between 60 and 70 fish, keeping 22 nice Whites between 12 and 16 inches for Abby’s grandparents. Plus since this was her birthday trip everyone was waiting for her to come home to celebrate. Mike said something about a nap, but that couldn’t have had anything to do with it. LOL
The water at Richland Chambers is very clear and in the upper 70’s. The fish on top were caught on Tiny Torpedoes and the slabs we used in 20 to 24 feet of water were Rainbo Shad Slabs in chartreuse and a new surprise Bass Pro Shops has a look alike spoon to the Hopkins Shorty Spoon in Tungsten. The slab weighs one ounce and worked great on the Whites. Just watch for the Terns!
Take care and tight lines!
