I am a “lucky” guide! I fished with some great kids today. Their names are Hunter Ohlen, his friend Chris and Hunter’s dad Keith came along as well. I started off looking for schooling fish at the shallow part of the dam but nobody was home, then I moved to Key Ranch with pretty much the same results. It was great to see John (smallblessing) out there and from the sound of his report I should have been following him around. LOL

About this time I was thinking GREAT, I can’t find the fish. Keith said it was more about the experience than the catching, From there we went on to the Spillway hump and found some nice keepers in 24 to 28 feet of water. The action slowed there so I went on again, this time to the sunken island and then the sailboat flat with limited success, I brought us back to the tennis courts and did find some nice fish here as well. Once again the Sandies moved on and so did we.

The next spot to try was the Enchanted Isle area and here we did get into some nice fish as well about that time Bobby called and said he was on a massive school at the mouth of Little Caney. Keith, the boys and I were sure glad we got the call and made the run! When we got their bobby and his customer were still putting fish after fish in the boat. Now the boys had their turn as well! The boys caught fish after fish and were just truly enjoying themselves. I hung around there as long as the fish were biting. We left there and headed just around the corner to another hump. I was going to try trolling the hump with Sassy Shads and when we came over the top of the hump it lit up with fish. We stopped trolling and immediately began slabbing up some of the biggest fish of the day.

The boys had a blast and I worked hard to make the day one they will remember. The group ended the day with a limit of 75 Sandies most of which were around 11-12 inches with some 13” plus fish as well. They also had one nice Blue Cat and one Hybrid at a little over 18”. They truly enjoyed the day and so did I.
Good Luck from the Leprechaun!!
