Lake Ray Hubbard, March 27, 2007
This was a great trip. It was the most successful Largemouth trip I have had this year. I had the honor to take NBA players Brian Skinner, Jarrod Rainer and Senior Trainer Andre Daniels of the Milwaukee Bucks fishing.
I got to the lake early that morning and did a lot of scouting and found some good fish holding on the rip rap. After getting a pattern established I went to the dock at Bass Pro and tied up to wait for them to get done with practice and make their way to the lake. It wasn’t hard for me to kill several hours just looking around and eating lunch.
Once they arrived we went back to where I had found the fish earlier in the day and they were still there and hungry. They caught one around 3-1/2, 2 between 2-1/2 and 3 and 1 around a pound and a half. The best fish came though from Brian Skinner. Brian caught his personal best bass to date a beautiful 7.46 pound female. After scrambling to get he fish box full we took her to Bass Pro Shops and registered her as a donation. You can see”Clover” in the main tank below the waterfalls.
We went back out and missed a few more fish but it would have taken something even bigger to make us take much notice. I never saw any bird activity and we were too busy anyway.
The water is still in the high 50’s and low 60’s so the key was a very slow presentation. The water was also stained to clear with the best fishing in the clear and calmer water. Clover was caught on a Texas rigged Kalins grub tail in watermelon color.
I look forward to more trips with these guys. Not only are they great athletes but they are excellent fishermen and genuinely sown to earth people
E-mail me if I can be of any use or help to you in anyway.
