Lake Tawakoni, March 17, 2006
I should have known that I would have the best day of the year so far on St. Patrick’s Day!
This was originally supposed to be a catfish trip, but seeing as I ruined my net on the 4th throw of the morning I had to quickly switch to Sandies and Hybrids. After telling Ronnie, Joe, Brian and Whitney the bad news, I switched to casting tackle and starting rigging all the rods with Holiday Baits Sassy Shads on Bass Pro Shop’s XPS Laser Eye Jig Heads and slabs.
As soon as everything was ready we headed up the lake and made our way near the dam. Brian caught the first fish, a big fat Sand Bass. And then it all got a little blurry!! For the next 3 solid hours I was netting fish, retying lures and putting new shad bodies on everyone’s jig heads. When the fishing slowed we had caught our limit of 20 Hybrids and had released another 19. There was also another 20 big White Bass in the box.
After making sure everyone had a Lead Babies ready to go I WAS going to take us to a hump up the lake to fish for White Bass, well we never made it. We were almost to the spot when we found hundreds of birds working a point and caught and released another 5 Hybrids and kept 5 more White Bass. So the total was 45 Hybrids, 25 White Bass, 1 Crappie and 1 Catfish that Ronnie lost at the boat.
It was a great day! You just don’t get many days like this one! All fish were caught on the two baits mentioned and they still preferred a very slow presentation. The water was stained and in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
The fishing is great right now and there are three of us to get you on the fish so give us a call!
E-mail me if I can be of any use or help to you in anyway.
