This morning started off a little slow. I mean there was some pretty heavy fog that slowed my trip to the lake so I was a little late getting there. When I did get there Mitch and his brother-in-law Steve were already there and waiting. I got the boat in as fast as I could and off we went.
My first stop was on the rip-rap at the dam. There we picked up a nice 20” Hybrid Striper and a nice Largemouth. We did have much other luck and after the fog cleared some we went up the lake to a cove where the fish and bait have been for the past several weeks.
We got there and birds were already beginning to work some fish chasing bait to the surface. I put out a rod each with a Holiday Sassy Shad using a Bass Pro XPS Laser-Eye jig head and began an slow troll in the area. Almost immediately we caught another nice Hybrid that was a little small.
We continued trolling and caught another 19 Hybrids and kept Mitch and Steve’s limits of 5 each. Several times we had doubles on including our last 2 fish for their limit. Mitch had the largest fish of the day at 25”
The fish were fairly active and we had a great time. The Sassy Shad color the fish preferred was a green metal flake and they really were hitting the baits hard. The water temp was in the mid to upper 50’s and the clarity was good.
I love the springtime!!!!
