Grapevine Lake Sand Bass

September and October are some great months for white bass on Lake Grapevine. The seagulls should be increasing in numbers over the next weeks giving us a great visual aid to finding schooling fish, especially on windy days. Some prime areas are the island, the sandbars in front of Merle Park, and appropriately the drop off in front of Sand Bass Point. I like to use a chartreuse/white Holiday Slab in 15/8-ounce size. I have noticed a lot of fishermen using Rat-L-Traps and top-water lures, and while that produces fish, a lot of those are on the small side. The slab allows you to get down deeper to larger sand bass. I use a stop-and-start retrieve until the fish go down (no longer any surface activity), and then I stay in the area working my slab just off the bottom.
